Filippo Giovagnoli has backed his side to put the mistakes of recent weeks behind them and finish the season in style.
Gary Rogers being caught out by a cross from Jesse Devers for Sligo’s opening goal on Monday night was the latest error a Dundalk player had made of late that had cost the side dearly.
However, with a free 12 day period before the FAI Cup quarter-final away to Bohemians on Friday November 20th and no Europa League action until the following Thursday November 26th, Giovagnoli believes the side can get back on track and finish the season on a high.
“When you make mistakes, the mistakes are coming from cognitive fatigue for sure.
“It’s not really measurable but you can feel when the players have mental fatigue. You can see it in practice and every day. The way that they walk and the way that they talk, the way that they arrive on the field and then to rebuild everything is complicated.
“Yes, we are making a lot of individual mistakes. That’s the reality but there is only one way to cure this and it is work. We need to go back and work on details and help players who make mistakes understand why.
“This season can still be really successful for the team. We just have to believe it.”
