Tonight’s league title success following a 3-2 win over Shamrock Rovers has seen Vinny Perth join Alan Fox in a unique club of Dundalk FC managers who have won the Premier Division title in their first season in charge.

Welshman Fox is the only boss in the history of Dundalk FC to have won won the league in their debut season when he guided a star-studded side to the 1966/67 title by a seven point margin over Bohemians and Sligo Rovers. Until now that is!

It was one of five trophies he clinched that season, something that is now achievable for Perth who already has the Presidents’ Cup, EA Sports Cup and league in the bag with the prospect of the FAI Cup and the Unite the Union Champions Cup to follow.

The closest to matching Fox’s achievement prior to now was Jim McLaughlin, who won the League in his first full season in 1975/76 but he actually joined Dundalk in November 1974 midway through the 1974/75 campaign.
