Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

That’ll be the mantra of Dundalk head coach Vinny Perth as he takes his side to St Colman’s Park next month for the first round of the FAI Cup against Cobh Ramblers.

The Cup holders will be hot favourites to advance to the next round of the competition when they travel to Cork for the match on the weekend ending August 11th.

However, having lost on their last visit to Cobh in last season’s EA Sports Cup semi-final Perth says no one can take the First Division side for granted.

“I think maybe last year was a timely reminder to the players that unless you’re at it you can get turned over. The timing of going down there last year was part of a difficult moment that we had in the season.

“We went down there and we struggled. That was less than a year ago. It’s a difficult draw because they’ll have nothing to lose and they’ll go all out for it. They’re not really chasing promotion in the league so I think their focus will be on the FAI Cup and if they need to rest anyone the week before they will. They’ll be well prepared. There’s a new management structure down there so it’ll be a difficult tie,” he said.
